RADICAL THINKING FILM SEMINARS AT KONSTFACK 06/07

PICTURING KNOWLEDGE

A series of six lectures looking at artists' involvement with film, politics, literature and popular culture. Discussing film presence in the context of the art institution, the cinema, the film festival and an online archive. Examining structural relationships, methodologies, economies and discourses of film as a critical document

The moving image as an historical and critical document has gained even grater relevance in todays cultural and political existance. To tell a truth, to retell what has happened, to select and recompose fragments of images is a decisive practice and possibility for more people today than ever. Throughout a series of seminars approaches to film techniques, narrative structures, and strategies of representation will be adressed with the help of invited guests, readings, screenings and discussion.

The seminars are divided in two parts. One part for the students at Konstfack together with an invited speaker. The other part open for public. For the first part of the seminar students will have time to broaden their studies and discuss specific issues related to the theme of the seminar. The second part of the seminar is based on a lecture by invited speaker and a film screening.
